Possible Causes

Burned-out hot rod igniter, Igniter not positioned correctly in fire pot, Loose igniter wiring, Excess ash blocking heat from igniter

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill off, unplug it, and allow it to cool completely. Pellets in the fire pot can ignite suddenly during troubleshooting.

  • Clean fire pot: Remove grates and heat baffles. Vacuum all ash and unburned pellets from the fire pot.
  • Check igniter glow: With the grill reassembled enough for safe operation, plug in and start a cycle. Look through the fire pot area for a red/orange glow from the igniter during startup. If there is no glow, proceed to igniter checks.
  • Inspect igniter position: Unplug the grill. Access the igniter and confirm its tip protrudes slightly into the fire pot and is not retracted too far into the tube.
  • Test igniter: Disconnect the igniter and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed igniter that must be replaced.
  • Replace igniter: Remove the retaining screw, slide out the old igniter, install the new Weber-compatible hot rod, and route wires away from hot surfaces. Reconnect the harness and test ignition.
