Controller displays ERR4 and grill will not start or stops mid-cook

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is completely cool before accessing the firepot or control box.

• Visual igniter check: Remove grates and diffuser plate to access the firepot. Locate the igniter tube in the side of the firepot. Inspect for heavy ash buildup blocking the igniter opening and clean thoroughly.
• Check for glow: With the firepot exposed, plug in the grill and start an ignition cycle while observing the igniter area (do not touch). Within a few minutes, the igniter tip should glow red. If there is no glow and no heat, unplug the grill and proceed.
• Inspect wiring: Open the controller housing and trace the igniter wires from the firepot to the control board. Ensure all connectors are firmly seated and not burned or melted.
• Fuse check: Some Yoder controllers include an inline or board-mounted fuse for the igniter circuit. Inspect and replace any blown fuse with the exact same rating.
• Replace igniter rod: If wiring and fuses are good but the igniter does not heat, remove the igniter assembly from the firepot (usually secured with a set screw or bracket) and install a new Yoder-compatible igniter rod.
• Controller replacement: If a new igniter still does not receive power, the igniter relay or output on the main control board may have failed and the controller should be replaced.
