Possible Causes
Combustion fan motor failed, Fan wiring harness disconnected, Obstruction preventing fan from turning, Failed fan driver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before touching the fan or opening the controller housing.
- Check fan movement: Locate the combustion fan (typically mounted near the firebox). Spin the fan blades by hand with the grill unplugged. They should rotate freely without scraping or binding. Remove any debris.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the fan wires from the motor to the controller. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not cut, pinched, or melted.
- Power-on test: With grates and diffuser in place, plug in the grill and start a cook cycle while observing the fan. If the fan does not start, unplug and continue diagnosis.
- Direct test (advanced): If comfortable and qualified, disconnect the fan and briefly power it from a suitable external DC/AC source matching its rating to confirm if the motor runs. If it does not, replace the combustion fan assembly.
- Controller evaluation: If the fan runs on external power but not when connected to the controller, the fan output on the main control board is likely defective and the controller should be replaced.
