Possible Causes
Pellet starvation due to empty hopper, Low-quality pellets producing excessive ash, Combustion fan not running consistently, Auger not feeding pellets at low settings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep the lid closed for several minutes after a flame-out to allow any unburned pellets to cool. Unplug the grill before cleaning the firepot.
- Verify pellet supply: Check the hopper and refill with dry, high-quality pellets if low. Stir pellets to ensure good flow.
- Clean firepot: Remove grates and diffuser plate. Vacuum ash and unburned pellets from the firepot and surrounding area. A clogged firepot can smother the flame.
- Check fan operation: Start the grill and confirm the combustion fan runs continuously during ignition and operation. Replace the fan if it is intermittent or weak.
- Observe auger feed: During startup, verify that pellets are dropping into the firepot at regular intervals. If not, inspect the auger motor and control output.
- Restart procedure: After cleaning and verifying operation, restart the grill following the manufacturer’s ignition procedure. Avoid repeatedly restarting without cleaning, as this can cause a large pellet buildup and potential flare-up.
