Yoder Smokers
Temperature Control Overshoot / Poor PID Tuning
Grill overshoots set temperature by 50°F or more and cycles widely

Possible Causes
RTD probe coated with grease and soot, Controller PID settings incorrect, Excessive pellet feed rate, Combustion fan running too strong
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the grill to cool before cleaning the RTD probe or opening the controller.
- Clean RTD probe: Gently scrub the cook chamber temperature probe with a non-abrasive pad to remove grease and soot. Do not bend the probe.
- Verify controller mode: Ensure the controller is set to the correct operating mode (e.g., standard vs. competition mode) per Yoder instructions.
- Check pellet quality: Use consistent, high-quality pellets. Very soft or crumbly pellets can affect feed consistency.
- Firmware and calibration: If available, update controller firmware and perform any recommended calibration steps. Contact Yoder support for PID tuning guidance if overshoot persists.
