Possible Causes

Auger motor failed electrically, Loose auger connector at control board, Control board auger relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure there is no active fire in the firepot.

Steps to diagnose:

  • Listen for motor: During a startup attempt (before unplugging), note whether you hear the auger motor hum or click. Silence often indicates electrical failure.
  • Inspect wiring: Remove the access panel and check the auger motor connector at both the motor and control board. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Check for jams first: Ensure the auger is not mechanically jammed (see jam-related procedures). A jammed auger can cause the motor to overheat and fail.
  • Bench test motor: If possible, disconnect the auger motor and test it with the appropriate AC voltage (only if you are qualified). If it does not run under direct power, it is defective.
  • Replace auger motor: Remove mounting bolts and slide the motor off the auger shaft. Install a new auger motor with gearbox, aligning the drive shaft properly.
  • Control board check: If a known-good motor does not run and there is no voltage at the motor connector during operation, the control board auger circuit may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
  • Test feed: Reassemble, plug in, and run a priming cycle to confirm pellets feed consistently and the AUG error is cleared.
