Possible Causes

Failed temperature input circuit on control board, Corroded RTD connector damaging board pins, Internal control board component failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or touching wiring.

Steps to address:

  • Reset the controller: Unplug the grill for at least 5 minutes to discharge the control board. Plug back in and see if Er4 clears.
  • Inspect RTD and connector: Remove the control panel and inspect the RTD connector and board pins for corrosion, burning, or bent pins. Clean gently with contact cleaner and a soft brush.
  • Check for moisture: Look for signs of water intrusion in the control box. Dry any moisture thoroughly and improve sealing if necessary.
  • Substitute RTD (if available): If you have a known-good RTD probe, temporarily connect it to the board outside the grill. If Er4 persists, the control board is likely faulty.
  • Replace control board: Label and disconnect all connectors from the existing board. Remove mounting screws and install a new Z Grills control board. Reconnect all harnesses firmly, matching each to its labeled position.
  • Test operation: Restore power and verify that the display shows a reasonable ambient temperature and that Er4 does not reappear during a heat cycle.
