Display shows Er5 and grill shuts down or will not start the auger.

Safety first: Unplug the grill. Ensure there is no active fire in the firepot before working on the auger system.

Steps to clear and repair:

• Empty hopper: Remove all pellets from the hopper. Scoop out remaining pellets and vacuum dust and fines from the bottom.
• Check for visible obstructions: Look down into the auger opening from the hopper. If you see clumped or swollen pellets, remove as much as possible by hand or with a shop vac.
• Access auger motor: Remove the side or bottom access panel to expose the auger motor and gearbox. Inspect wiring and confirm the motor is firmly mounted.
• Manually rotate auger: With the motor disconnected from power, try to turn the auger shaft by hand (or by removing the motor and turning the auger directly). If it will not turn, there is a jam.
• Clear jam: Remove the auger motor mounting bolts and slide the motor off the shaft. Pull the auger out of the tube from the hopper side. Scrape and clean out compacted pellets, rust, or debris from the auger and tube.
• Inspect motor: If the auger turns freely when removed but the motor will not run or is extremely stiff, replace the auger motor with gearbox.
• Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger, motor, and access panels. Refill the hopper with fresh, dry pellets. Plug in the grill and start a priming cycle to confirm the auger runs smoothly and Er5 is cleared.
