Possible Causes
Incorrect RTD type installed, RTD partially damaged causing inaccurate readings, Control board firmware mismatch for probe type
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or probe wiring.
Steps to correct:
- Confirm probe type: Verify that the installed RTD temperature sensor is the correct replacement specified for your Z Grills model. Using a generic or wrong type can cause Er7 and inaccurate temperatures.
- Inspect probe placement: Ensure the RTD probe is fully inserted and mounted in its factory location on the cook chamber wall, not touching grates or food.
- Check wiring integrity: Look for partial breaks or kinks in the RTD cable that could cause intermittent readings. Replace the probe if any damage is found.
- Controller reset: Unplug the grill for 5–10 minutes to reset the controller. Some models allow a factory reset via button sequence; consult your manual and perform if available.
- Replace mismatched parts: If a non-OEM probe was installed, replace it with a genuine Z Grills RTD. If the issue started after a control board replacement, ensure the board is the correct part number for your model.
- Verify with external thermometer: After repair, run the grill at 225°F and 350°F and compare chamber temperature with a reliable oven thermometer to confirm accuracy.
