Possible Causes

RTD probe lead shorted to grill body, RTD cable insulation worn through, Moisture or grease bridging RTD terminals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool completely.

Steps to fix:

  • Inspect RTD mounting: Inside the cook chamber, verify that the RTD probe is properly isolated and not bent so that its wiring or body is shorting directly to the metal wall beyond its designed mounting.
  • Check cable for chafing: Follow the RTD cable through the body. Look for spots where the insulation has rubbed off against sharp metal edges. If copper is exposed, the cable may be shorting to ground.
  • Clean connectors: Remove the RTD connector from the control board and clean any grease or moisture with contact cleaner. Let it dry fully.
  • Test with multimeter: With the RTD disconnected, measure resistance from each RTD lead to the grill body (ground). Any low resistance indicates a short to ground. Replace the probe if a short is found.
  • Replace RTD if needed: Install a new RTD temperature sensor probe, ensuring the cable is routed through grommets and protected from sharp edges.
  • Test operation: Reconnect everything, power on, and confirm that the temperature reading now matches ambient and H1 is cleared.
