Pellet Feed Rate Too Low (P-Setting Configuration)
Controller shows P1 and grill struggles to maintain temperature, often running too cool.

Possible Causes
P-setting manually set too low for ambient conditions, Control board misconfigured for model, Excessive wind or cold affecting heat retention
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep the lid closed during operation to avoid flare-ups and heat loss. No internal electrical work is required for this adjustment.
Steps to adjust:
- Understand P-setting: On many Z Grills models, the P-setting adjusts the auger off-time in smoke mode. Lower P numbers feed more pellets (hotter), higher P numbers feed fewer pellets (cooler).
- Check current setting: With the grill on in smoke mode, press the P-setting button (if equipped) to display the current value (P1–P7).
- Increase feed rate: If the grill is running too cool or going out, decrease the P number (e.g., from P4 to P2) to increase pellet feed.
- Account for weather: In cold or windy conditions, use a lower P number and consider a thermal blanket for the grill.
- Monitor temperature: After adjustment, allow 15–20 minutes for the grill to stabilize and verify that it maintains the desired temperature.
