Possible Causes
Auger jammed with pellets or debris, Failed auger motor, Loose auger motor connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure the firepot is cool before working on the auger.
Steps to fix:
- Empty hopper: Remove all pellets and vacuum out dust and fines.
- Check for jam: Look into the auger opening from the hopper. If pellets are tightly packed or swollen, there is likely a jam.
- Access auger motor: Remove the side or bottom panel to expose the auger motor and gearbox. Inspect for obvious damage.
- Remove motor and auger: Disconnect the motor wiring, remove mounting bolts, and slide the motor off. Pull the auger shaft out from the hopper side.
- Clear tube: Scrape and vacuum all compacted pellets, sawdust, and rust from the auger tube. Ensure the tube is smooth and clean.
- Inspect motor: Try turning the motor shaft by hand. If seized or very stiff, replace the auger motor with gearbox.
- Reassemble and prime: Reinstall the auger and motor, refill with dry pellets, and run a priming cycle to confirm proper feed.
