How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power and do not repeatedly restart a unit with refrigeration faults; this can damage the compressor.
- Listen at startup: Restore power and attempt a single start. Note if the compressor hums then trips, or does not start at all.
- Check contactor: Inspect the compressor contactor for pitted or welded contacts. Replace if damaged.
- Compressor amp draw (advanced): A technician should measure starting and running amps to determine if the compressor is locked or overloaded.
- Refrigerant diagnosis: Only a certified technician should connect gauges and evaluate refrigerant charge and expansion device operation.
