Cracked heat exchanger, Leaking manifold gasket, Loose union or header plug, Condensate drain misidentified as leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and pump, and allow the heater to cool. Hot water and sharp metal edges are present.
- Identify source: Remove the front and side panels and use a flashlight to locate the exact origin of the water. Check around the heat exchanger, manifolds, and unions.
- Check unions and plugs: Tighten any loose PVC unions at the heater inlet/outlet and inspect header drain plugs for leaks. Replace O-rings if damaged.
- Distinguish condensate: High-efficiency models may produce condensate that drains from a specific outlet. Clear the condensate drain line if it is clogged.
- Heat exchanger or manifold: If water is seeping from the heat exchanger body or manifold gaskets, the exchanger or gasket kit will need replacement by a professional.
