Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before touching the fan or removing guards.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the fan blades for leaves, sticks, or other debris preventing rotation. Remove any obstructions.
- Spin test: With power off, gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding noises. Stiff or seized movement indicates a bad motor bearing.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor wiring harness and connector for damage or loose connections. Reseat connectors.
- Capacitor check (if accessible): On models with an external fan capacitor, inspect for bulging or leaking. A failed capacitor can prevent the fan from starting and should be replaced with the same rating.
- Restart: Restore power and start the heater. If the fan still does not run and E14 returns, the motor or control output is likely faulty.
Replace the fan motor and capacitor as a set if the motor is not starting or is noisy. If a new motor does not resolve E14, the control board fan driver may be defective.
