Possible Causes

Refrigerant leak in titanium heat exchanger circuit, Low refrigerant charge from factory, Faulty low-pressure switch, Blocked evaporator coil reducing suction pressure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the pool heater at the breaker and lock it out. Refrigerant systems must only be opened and charged by an EPA-certified technician.

Basic checks you can do:

  • Verify water flow: Ensure the pool circulation pump is running and that all valves to and from the Fairland heat pump are fully open. Low water flow can cause the unit to shut down early.
  • Clean air side: Inspect the outdoor evaporator coil on the Fairland unit. Remove leaves, plastic bags, and debris with a soft brush and low-pressure water spray (spray from inside out if possible).
  • Check ambient conditions: If air temperature is very low (near or below the unit’s minimum operating temperature), the unit may show low-pressure protection. Wait for warmer conditions and retry.

When to call a technician:

  • If E01 persists with good water flow and a clean coil, a licensed refrigeration technician must check the refrigerant charge, low-pressure switch, and brazed joints on the Fairland refrigerant circuit.
  • They may need to locate and repair a leak, evacuate, and recharge the system to the correct specification.
