Possible Causes

Failed evaporator coil sensor, Sensor not properly attached to coil, Damaged sensor cable, Corroded connector at PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the coil area.

Steps:

  • Locate coil sensor: On Fairland heat pumps, the defrost/coil sensor is usually clipped to the refrigerant coil tubing or fins.
  • Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped and making good contact with the coil surface.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor lead back to the PCB, checking for damage or loose plugs.

If E12 persists:

  • Replace the coil temperature sensor with a Fairland-compatible NTC sensor.
  • A technician should verify correct defrost operation after replacement.
