Possible Causes
Failed fan motor, Faulty fan capacitor, Obstructed fan blade, Loose fan wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and verify the fan cannot start unexpectedly before touching the blade.
- Inspect fan area: Remove the top grille if needed and check for sticks, leaves, or objects blocking the fan.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. Stiffness indicates motor bearing failure.
- Check capacitor: Locate the fan capacitor in the control compartment. Look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the same µF rating if defective.
- Wiring: Verify all fan motor wires are secure on the contactor and capacitor terminals.
- Replace motor: If the motor hums but will not start, or is seized, replace the fan motor with a Heat Siphon–approved unit.
