Possible Causes
Outdoor air temperature below operating range, Faulty ambient air temperature sensor, Sensor not properly located in airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing sensors or wiring.
- Check ambient conditions: Confirm outdoor temperature. Many Heat Siphon models have a minimum operating air temperature (e.g., around 40°F/4°C). Below this, LOt is normal and protects the unit.
- Inspect ambient sensor: Locate the air temperature sensor near the evaporator coil or in the control compartment. Ensure it is not touching hot components and is exposed to outdoor air.
- Check wiring: Look for damaged or chewed sensor wires. Reseat the connector on the control board.
- Test sensor: With a multimeter, measure sensor resistance and compare to Heat Siphon temperature/resistance chart (from service manual). Replace if out of range.
