Possible Causes
Failed 24V valve actuator motor, Stripped actuator gears, Misaligned actuator cams, Loose or broken actuator wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the controller and pump before working on the valve actuator. Do not manually force the valve while powered.
- Check actuator power: With power on and a call for solar, use a multimeter at the actuator leads to confirm the controller is sending the correct voltage (typically 24 VAC). If no voltage is present, suspect the controller or wiring.
- Inspect wiring: Turn power off, open the actuator cover, and check for loose or corroded wire nuts or terminal screws. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test manual operation: Use the manual override lever on the valve body to ensure the Jandy-style diverter valve itself turns freely. If it is stiff or seized, the valve body may need service.
- Check cam settings: Verify the internal stop cams are set to allow full travel between pool and solar positions. Adjust cams according to the actuator manual.
- Replace actuator if necessary: If the motor hums but does not move, or if gears are stripped, replace the actuator with a compatible Heliocol-approved solar valve actuator.
