Possible Causes
Loose header clamp connections, Cracked Heliocol manifold, Aged or damaged O-rings at panel couplings, Freeze damage to header fittings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump and allow the system to depressurize before working on roof plumbing. Use fall protection and avoid stepping directly on panels.
- Identify leak location: Observe the array while the pump is running to pinpoint the exact header or coupling that is leaking.
- Tighten clamps: For Heliocol panel-to-panel couplings, gently tighten the stainless-steel clamps evenly. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the manifold.
- Inspect O-rings: Disassemble the leaking coupling, inspect the O-rings for flattening, cracks, or cuts, and replace with Heliocol-specified O-rings if needed. Lubricate lightly with silicone-based lubricant.
- Check for cracks: Examine the manifold for visible cracks or splits, especially after freeze events. Replace the affected panel if the manifold is damaged.
- Pressure test: Restart the pump and verify that the leak has been eliminated.
