Possible Causes
Dirty or misaligned igniter, Failed hot surface igniter, Gas valve not opening, Low gas pressure or air in gas line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and shut off the gas supply before removing panels. Allow the heater to cool completely.
- Check gas supply: Verify the gas valve to the heater is fully open. If other gas appliances are not working, contact your gas supplier.
- Inspect the igniter: Remove the front panel and locate the hot surface igniter near the burner tray. Look for cracks, white spots, or broken ceramic. If damaged, replace the igniter with a Jandy-compatible hot surface igniter.
- Clean burner area: Gently vacuum dust and debris around the burner and igniter. Do not touch the igniter element with bare fingers.
- Check wiring: Inspect the igniter harness and connectors at the ignition control board for loose or corroded terminals. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Reset and test: Restore power and gas, then reset the heater. If IF returns after several ignition attempts, the gas valve or ignition control may be faulty and a qualified technician should test gas pressure and valve operation.
