Possible Causes
Cracked Kripsol heat exchanger, Leaking union or gasket on Kripsol water manifold, Corroded drain plug or freeze damage, Loose internal plumbing connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas. Close isolation valves to the heater and allow it to cool. Water leaks can cause electrical hazards.
- Identify leak source: Remove the front and side panels and use a flashlight to trace the leak. Look at the Kripsol heat exchanger headers, unions, and drain plugs.
- Tighten fittings: Gently tighten any loose unions or threaded fittings on the inlet/outlet manifold. Do not overtighten plastic parts.
- Replace gaskets: If water is seeping from a union, replace the Kripsol union gasket or O-ring and reassemble.
- Check for freeze damage: Look for cracks in the heat exchanger or manifold, especially after winter. Cracked exchangers usually require full replacement.
- Dry and test: After repairs, slowly reopen valves and pressurize the system while watching for leaks. Do not operate the heater until all leaks are resolved.
