Possible Causes
Cracked heat exchanger, Leaking manifold O-rings, Loose union fittings, Corroded internal piping
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power, shut off gas, and stop the pool pump before inspecting leaks. Hot water can cause burns.
- Identify source: Remove the front and side panels of the Nirvana heater. Use a flashlight to trace the leak upward from the bottom pan to the highest visible wet point.
- Check unions and joints: Inspect the inlet and outlet unions, internal PVC or copper connections, and Nirvana manifold O-rings for drips. Tighten unions gently and replace O-rings if cracked or flattened.
- Heat exchanger inspection: Look for water seeping from the heat exchanger tubes or headers. Green or white scale trails often indicate a slow exchanger leak.
- Condensate vs leak: In high-efficiency models, distinguish between normal condensate drainage and actual leaks. Ensure the condensate drain line is clear and properly routed.
- Replace components: Minor leaks at unions or O-rings can often be repaired by replacing seals. A leaking heat exchanger typically requires replacement of the Nirvana heat exchanger assembly by a professional.
