Possible Causes
Failed ambient temperature sensor, Open or shorted sensor wiring, Sensor not properly mounted in airflow, Control board misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before accessing sensors.
- Locate ambient sensor: On some Pentair heaters, a small thermistor is mounted near the control area or air intake to monitor ambient temperature.
- Inspect mounting and wiring: Ensure the sensor is securely mounted and not dangling or touching hot surfaces. Check wiring for damage.
- Test sensor resistance: Measure resistance and compare to Pentair’s chart for the current air temperature. Replace if out of range.
- Board evaluation: If a new sensor does not clear E16, the control board’s sensor input may be defective and require replacement.
