Possible Causes
Partially fouled flame sensor, Poor burner grounding, Loose burner rack or mounting screws, Low gas pressure causing unstable flame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas. Allow the heater to cool.
- Clean flame sensor: Remove and gently clean the flame sensor rod with fine abrasive pad until shiny. Reinstall ensuring it is firmly in the flame path.
- Check ground connections: Verify that the burner tray and control board ground wires are securely fastened to clean metal surfaces. Tighten any loose screws.
- Inspect burner flame: Restore power and gas, then observe the flame through the sight glass. It should be stable and blue. If it lifts or blows off the burner, have gas pressure checked by a professional.
- Secure burner assembly: Ensure the burner rack is properly seated and all mounting screws are tight to maintain a consistent flame pattern.
Warning: Do not bend the flame sensor excessively; it can crack the ceramic insulator.
