Flow-Related Shutdown with Variable-Speed Pump
Heater shuts off when pump speed is reduced on a variable-speed pump
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Pump speed too low for heater's minimum flow, Incorrect bypass valve setting, Sensitive pressure switch calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure all equipment is properly bonded and grounded before adjusting pump settings.
- Increase pump speed: Raise the pump RPM during heating cycles to meet the minimum flow requirement specified by Poolworld.
- Adjust bypass: If a bypass is installed, partially close it to direct more flow through the heater while maintaining overall system balance.
- Observe heater behavior: After adjustments, monitor the heater to ensure it runs continuously without shutting off due to low flow.
- Consider automation: Program the pump to automatically run at a higher speed whenever the heater is enabled.
Note: Running at too low a flow can overheat the heat exchanger; always maintain recommended flow rates.
