Possible Causes
Weak flame signal at flame sensor, Dirty burners or heat exchanger, Marginal gas pressure, Overheating causing high limit to open
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before cleaning burners or sensors.
Steps to address short cycling:
- Clean flame sensor: Remove and clean the flame rod with fine abrasive pad. Reinstall and ensure proper positioning in the flame.
- Clean burners: Remove burner tray and brush off rust, scale, and debris. Blow out burner ports with compressed air.
- Check water flow: Ensure pump is running properly and filter is clean to avoid overheating and high limit trips.
- Gas supply check: If flames appear weak or noisy, have a technician verify inlet and manifold gas pressures.
Note: Persistent short cycling can damage components and should be corrected promptly.
