Possible Causes
Shorted blower motor, Shorted igniter, Damaged wiring harness, Water intrusion into electrical components
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Turn off power and leave it off until the fault is found.
Steps to troubleshoot breaker trips:
- Visual inspection: Look for burned wires, melted insulation, or signs of arcing inside the electrical compartment.
- Isolate components: Disconnect suspect loads (blower, igniter, pump relay) one at a time and try powering the heater (without calling for heat) to see if the breaker holds.
- Test motors and igniter: Use a multimeter to check resistance to ground from blower motor leads and igniter leads. Replace any component that shows a short to ground.
- Dry moisture: If water has entered the control area, dry thoroughly and correct the source of the leak before restoring power.
Warning: If you are not experienced with electrical troubleshooting, contact a qualified technician.
