Possible Causes
Corrupted control board memory, Incorrect replacement board configuration, Power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power before handling the control board.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for at least 10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge, then restore power and check if the error clears.
- Check dip switches/jumpers: On some Rheem boards, configuration switches must match the heater model and gas type. Verify settings against the installation manual.
- Inspect for surge damage: Look for burn marks or swollen components on the board. If present, the board must be replaced.
- Replace control board: If E15 persists, install a new Rheem OEM control board and configure it per the model specifications.
