Possible Causes

Low ambient temperature detected by SmartPool freeze sensor, Freeze sensor out of calibration, Incorrect freeze setpoint

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Information: SPFZ indicates the heater is protecting plumbing from freezing, not a combustion fault.

  • Check ambient conditions: If outdoor temperature is near or below freezing, this is normal. The heater may be locked out from heating to protect itself.
  • Verify sensor: If SPFZ appears in warm weather, inspect the freeze sensor wiring and location. It should not be in direct contact with cold metal or evaporative cooling sources.
  • Settings: Review the SmartPool installer menu (if accessible) for freeze protection setpoints and adjust only per the manual.
