Possible Causes
Oversized heater for pool volume, Thermostat sensor located too close to heater outlet, Flow or pressure switch chatter, High limit or temperature sensor nuisance trips
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Impact: Short cycling reduces efficiency and stresses components.
- Check setpoint: Avoid setting the temperature only 1–2°F above current water temperature; use a larger differential.
- Verify sensor placement: Ensure the SmartPool water sensor or automation sensor is not installed immediately downstream of the heater outlet where water is hottest.
- Stabilize flow: Clean filters and ensure pump speed is steady to prevent pressure switch chatter.
- Observe display: Watch which parameter changes when the heater shuts off (HI, FLO, etc.) to identify the tripping safety.
