Possible Causes
Open-circuit stack flue sensor, Shorted sensor wiring, Overheated flue sensor from restricted airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off power and gas. Allow the heater to cool before touching the flue area.
- Locate stack flue sensor: On Sta-Rite units, this sensor is mounted on or near the exhaust collector or flue outlet.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Look for melted insulation, loose terminals, or corrosion. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. An infinite (open) or near-zero (shorted) reading indicates failure. Compare to Sta-Rite specs at ambient temperature.
- Check for overheating causes: Inspect the exhaust path for blockages and verify that the combustion air openings on the cabinet are not obstructed.
- Replace sensor: If defective, install a new Sta-Rite stack flue sensor and secure wiring away from hot surfaces.
