Possible Causes
Stuck relay on ignition control board, Faulty post-purge timer circuit, Control board firmware error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before touching the control board or internal wiring.
- Power cycle the heater: Turn off the breaker for 2–3 minutes, then restore power to reset the ignition control.
- Inspect control board: Look for signs of overheating, burnt components, or moisture on the Sta-Rite ignition/control board.
- Check blower relay: If the blower runs continuously even with no call for heat, the blower relay on the board may be welded closed. Replacement of the board is required.
- Replace ignition control board: If E16 persists after reset and wiring checks, install a new Sta-Rite ignition control module or main control board as specified for your model.
