Possible Causes
Blocked burner area, Wind-induced flame disturbance, Sooted or partially blocked heat exchanger, Tripped rollout switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: Flame rollout is a serious condition. Turn off power and gas immediately. Do not continue to operate the heater until the cause is corrected.
- Inspect rollout switches: Locate the Flame Rollout Switches near the burner opening. Manually reset them if they have a reset button. If they are one-time fuses, they must be replaced once the underlying issue is fixed.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the burner access panel and inspect for debris, rodent nests, or rust buildup around the burners and under the heat exchanger.
- Look for soot and discoloration: Heavy soot on the heat exchanger or cabinet, or melted wiring near the burners, indicates improper combustion and possible blockage. Do not attempt to scrape the exchanger fins aggressively; professional cleaning is recommended.
- Evaluate wind conditions: If E11 occurs only during strong winds, check that the vent termination and intake are installed per SunHeater guidelines, with proper clearances and wind baffles if required.
- Call a professional: Because rollout involves combustion safety, have a qualified pool heater technician inspect the Burner Assembly, Heat Exchanger, and venting before returning the heater to service.
