Possible Causes
Marginal igniter, Weak gas supply, Dirty burners, Faulty ignition control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas. Allow the heater to cool before working inside.
- Reset lockout: Most SunHeater models clear E14 by turning power off for 30 seconds and then back on. Do this only after addressing possible causes.
- Inspect igniter: Remove and visually inspect the Hot Surface Igniter. Replace if cracked, heavily pitted, or if resistance is outside the manufacturer's range.
- Clean burners: Remove the burner tray and clean burner ports with compressed air. Ensure even flame distribution when the heater runs.
- Check gas pressure (professional): Have a licensed gas technician measure inlet and manifold gas pressure while the heater is firing. Low pressure can cause intermittent ignition and lockouts.
- Replace ignition control if needed: If all mechanical and gas issues are resolved and E14 persists, the Ignition Control Board may be failing and should be replaced.
