Possible Causes
Broken or shorted Thermeau flame sensor lead, Flame sensor rod cracked or grounded, Corroded connector at control board, Faulty flame rectification circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before accessing the burner compartment.
- Inspect flame sensor rod: Locate the flame sensor near the burner. Check for cracks in the ceramic insulator or rod touching metal surfaces.
- Check wiring: Follow the flame sensor wire back to the control board. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or loose terminals. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Clean sensor: Lightly polish the metal rod with fine steel wool to remove oxidation, then wipe clean.
- Reconnect and test: Reinstall the sensor, ensuring proper positioning in the flame. Restore power and gas, then call for heat. If F10 persists, the control board’s flame sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement.
