Possible Causes
Partially clogged impeller vanes, Clogged skimmer or pump basket, Collapsed suction hose (above-ground pools), Obstruction in suction line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power and close valves before disassembling the pump.
- Clean baskets: Empty all skimmer and pump baskets and ensure they are seated correctly.
- Inspect impeller: Remove the pump housing from the AO Smith motor and inspect the impeller eye and vanes for string, hair, or debris. Clean thoroughly.
- Check hoses and lines: For above-ground setups, inspect flexible hoses for kinks or collapse. For in-ground, backwash or blow out suction lines if blockage is suspected.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the impeller and housing, prime the pump, and verify that filter pressure and return flow improve.
