Possible Causes

Foreign object jammed in impeller, Seized motor bearings, Failed start capacitor on AquaFlo motor, Misaligned pump shaft

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify the pump cannot start unexpectedly.

  • Check for mechanical blockage: Remove the pump lid and basket. Reach into the volute and feel for debris in the impeller. Remove any stones, toys, or large debris.
  • Spin shaft manually: Remove the rear motor cover and attempt to rotate the shaft with a screwdriver. If it will not turn or is very stiff, the bearings or seal may be seized.
  • Inspect start capacitor: Locate the start/run capacitor on the motor. If bulged, leaking, or cracked, replace it with an AquaFlo-specified capacitor of the same µF and voltage rating.
  • Check alignment and mounting: Ensure the pump is mounted flat and that the motor bolts are tight. Misalignment can cause binding between the impeller and diffuser.

If the rotor remains locked after clearing debris and replacing the capacitor, the motor should be replaced rather than repeatedly energized, which can cause further damage.
