Possible Causes
Worn AquaFlo mechanical seal, Corroded shaft sleeve, Improper seal installation after previous repair, Operation with dry pump causing seal overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close suction and return valves. Relieve pressure by opening the pump lid slowly.
- Confirm leak source: Dry the pump and observe while briefly running (if safe). A drip from the seal plate weep hole indicates a failed mechanical seal.
- Disassemble wet end: Remove the motor from the pump housing by loosening the through-bolts. Remove the impeller to access the mechanical seal components.
- Replace mechanical seal: Install a new AquaFlo mechanical shaft seal matching your model. Press the ceramic seat into the seal plate and the rotating carbon piece onto the impeller per instructions. Avoid touching seal faces with bare fingers.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the impeller and motor, re-prime the pump, and check for leaks.
