Pump display shows E05 and motor does not run, often after a storm or power surge
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker and verify with a tester. Do not attempt to run the pump repeatedly with this error.
- Visual inspection: Open the Aquaflow control box and inspect the control board for burn marks, bulging components, or a burnt smell.
- Check motor insulation: Disconnect the motor leads from the board and have them tested with a megohmmeter (insulation resistance to ground). Low insulation can cause drive faults.
- Surge protection: If the error appeared after a storm, inspect any external surge protectors or disconnects for damage.
- Reset attempt: Some Aquaflow models allow a hard reset by disconnecting power for 5 minutes, then restoring. If E05 returns immediately, do not continue cycling power.
Because E05 typically indicates internal electronic failure, replacement of the Aquaflow control board assembly is usually required. This should be done by a qualified technician.
