Possible Causes
Worn front or rear motor bearings, Water intrusion into motor, Misalignment between motor and pump housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and do not continue to run a pump with severe grinding noise; it can seize and trip breakers.
- Isolate the noise: Place a screwdriver handle against the AquaJet motor housing and your ear on the other end to confirm the noise is from the motor, not plumbing.
- Check for leaks: Inspect the mechanical seal area between the pump housing and motor for water leaks that may have entered the motor.
- Plan for replacement: Motor bearings are not typically serviced in the field for sealed AquaJet motors. Replace the motor assembly or complete pump head as recommended.
- Address root cause: If a seal leak caused bearing failure, replace the mechanical shaft seal at the same time as the motor.
