Possible Causes

Impeller jammed by debris, Seized motor bearings, Shorted motor windings, Blocked pump basket causing overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the pump at the breaker and lock out/tag out if possible. Do not keep resetting and forcing the pump to start.

  • Check and clean pump basket: Remove the pump lid on the AstralPool wet end, take out the strainer basket and clear leaves, stones or cable ties. Rinse thoroughly and reinstall.
  • Inspect for impeller blockage: With the basket removed and power isolated, reach into the volute and gently try to rotate the impeller by hand or with a plastic tool. It should turn smoothly. If it is jammed, remove debris such as pebbles or tile pieces. Do not use metal tools that can damage the impeller.
  • Check motor shaft rotation: On many AstralPool pumps you can access the motor shaft at the rear fan cover. With power off, spin the shaft by hand. If it is stiff, gritty or seized, the motor bearings are likely failing.
  • Try a restart: Reassemble the lid with a clean O-ring, prime the pump with water, restore power and start the pump. If ERR2 returns immediately, stop and arrange motor testing.

Persistent ERR2 after clearing blockages usually indicates a failing motor or internal drive electronics. Have a pool technician or motor shop test current draw and insulation resistance.
