Possible Causes

Blocked motor cooling vents, Pump running in direct sun with poor ventilation, High ambient temperature and restricted airflow in pump enclosure, Failing motor cooling fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before cleaning or moving the pump.

  • Inspect ventilation: Ensure the pump is not enclosed in a sealed box. AstralPool motors require free airflow around the rear fan cover. Open louvers or remove obstructions to improve ventilation.
  • Clean cooling vents: Brush or vacuum dust, cobwebs and leaves from the motor housing and fan cover. Do not spray water directly into the motor.
  • Check fan operation: With power off, spin the rear fan by hand. It should rotate freely without scraping. If the fan is broken or jammed, the motor will overheat.
  • Reduce load and runtime: Temporarily lower the pump speed on the controller and shorten continuous run times during the hottest part of the day to see if ERR3 stops occurring.

If the pump still overheats quickly, the motor windings or internal drive may be damaged. A technician should measure winding resistance and insulation and replace the motor or drive module if required.
