Possible Causes
Insulation breakdown in Calpeda motor windings, Water ingress into Calpeda motor terminal box, Damaged power cable to Calpeda pump, Faulty RCD/GFCI feeding Calpeda system
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset an RCD/GFCI that trips. There may be a dangerous fault. Isolate power and keep the area dry.
- Inspect cable and junctions: Check the entire length of the pump power cable for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections. Replace damaged cable immediately.
- Check motor terminal box for moisture: Open the Calpeda motor terminal box and look for condensation, corrosion, or water. Dry thoroughly, clean terminals, and replace any compromised gaskets or cable glands.
- Insulation resistance test: Using a megohmmeter (500 V), measure insulation resistance between each motor lead and earth. Values below 1 MΩ indicate serious insulation problems; the motor should be repaired or replaced.
- Verify RCD/GFCI operation: Test the device using its test button. If it trips erratically with other loads, it may be faulty and require replacement by an electrician.
- Do not bypass safety devices: Never bypass earth leakage protection to keep the pump running. Resolve the underlying fault before returning the pump to service.
