Possible Causes
Impeller partially blocked in Calpeda pump housing, Excessive system backpressure from closed valves or dirty filter, Incorrect maximum current parameter in Calpeda VFD, Mechanical binding in Calpeda motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close isolation valves before opening the pump.
- Inspect and clean impeller: Remove the pump lid and basket. If necessary, disconnect the pump from the plumbing and open the volute to access the impeller. Remove debris such as stones, cable ties, or fibrous material wrapped around the impeller.
- Check system pressure: Read the filter pressure gauge. If it is significantly higher than normal, backwash or clean the filter to reduce backpressure.
- Verify valve positions: Ensure return and suction valves are fully open. Partially closed valves increase load on the pump.
- Check motor bearings: With the pump disassembled and power off, spin the motor shaft by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. Stiff or noisy bearings indicate the need for motor or bearing replacement.
- Adjust VFD parameters: In the Calpeda controller menu, verify that the rated motor current and torque limits match the motor nameplate. Incorrect settings can cause premature overload trips.
