Possible Causes
Restricted suction to Calpeda pump, Excessive lift height beyond Calpeda pump specification, Partially blocked impeller in Calpeda volute, Operating Calpeda pump with closed or nearly closed suction valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close valves before disassembling the pump.
- Check suction conditions: Ensure suction valves are fully open and that the suction line is not undersized or excessively long compared to Calpeda recommendations.
- Inspect impeller: Remove the pump lid and basket. If noise persists, disconnect the pump from the plumbing and open the volute to access the impeller. Look for chips, cracks, or foreign objects lodged in the vanes.
- Remove debris: Carefully remove any stones, screws, or hard debris. If the impeller is badly damaged, replace it with a Calpeda OEM impeller of the correct model.
- Correct installation issues: If the pump is installed above the water level, verify that the suction lift is within Calpeda's specified limit and that the suction pipe is properly sized and routed to minimize restrictions.
