Calpeda
Suction Air Leak
Pump runs but air bubbles are visible in the pump lid and at pool returns
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose suction union on Calpeda pump, Damaged suction pipe or fittings, Worn pump lid O-ring on Calpeda prefilter, Low water level causing vortex at skimmer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before tightening unions or opening the pump.
- Check water level: Raise pool water level to prevent vortexing at the skimmer that can draw air into the suction line.
- Inspect lid seal: Remove and inspect the Calpeda pump lid O-ring. Clean, lubricate with silicone grease, and replace if cracked or flattened.
- Tighten suction unions: Hand-tighten unions on the suction side, then add a small additional turn with a strap wrench. Do not overtighten plastic fittings.
- Check for pipe leaks: Look for damp soil, water stains, or hissing sounds along the suction line. Repair or replace damaged sections of pipe or fittings.
