Possible Causes
Damaged or unbalanced impeller in Calpeda pump, Misaligned motor and pump coupling on Calpeda close-coupled unit, Loose mounting bolts on Calpeda pump base, Air pockets causing intermittent cavitation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before tightening mounts or opening the pump.
- Check mounting: Inspect the Calpeda pump base and ensure all anchor bolts are tight and the base is level. Tighten loose bolts and add vibration pads if necessary.
- Inspect impeller for damage: Disassemble the pump wet end and examine the impeller for broken vanes or missing pieces. Replace with a balanced Calpeda impeller if damaged.
- Verify alignment: On models with a separate motor and pump connected by a coupling, check that the shafts are aligned according to Calpeda specifications using feeler gauges or a dial indicator. Adjust motor position as needed.
- Eliminate air ingestion: Ensure the pump is fully primed and that there are no suction-side air leaks, which can cause intermittent cavitation and vibration.
