Possible Causes

Pump not properly primed, Suction hose above water level or drawing air, Blocked pool inlet or skimmer, Severely clogged pump basket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the pump before removing any covers or hoses. Never run the Flowclear pump without water; this can damage the mechanical seal and impeller.

Steps to restore water supply:

  • 1. Verify water level: Ensure the pool water level is high enough to cover the Flowclear inlet fittings and skimmer opening.
  • 2. Check suction hose routing: Confirm the suction hose runs downhill or level from the pool to the pump and that all connections are tight. Eliminate high loops that can trap air.
  • 3. Clean pump basket: Remove the pump lid and basket. Clear all debris and rinse the basket. Inspect the inlet port for obstructions.
  • 4. Prime the pump: Fill the pump housing completely with pool water, reinstall the basket and lid, and ensure the lid O-ring is seated correctly. Tighten the lid evenly.
  • 5. Retest: Reconnect power and start the pump. If E04 reappears and the pump loses prime quickly, check for air leaks at the Flowclear hose adapters and replace any cracked hoses or O-rings.
